Organic cashews are creamy and delicious.
You can eat them raw or sauté for a few minutes and sprinkle through salads, vegetables or mix with maple syrup and make a wonderful topping for dessert.
Are cashews nuts or legumes?
Neither.
The cashew tree is a tropical evergreen which grows both cashew 'nuts' and cashew fruit - cashew apples.
Cashews are not actually true nuts, they are drupes (the stone within a fleshy fruit - similar to the stones within plums or apricots). They are sometimes mistaken for legumes because they split in two in the same way that a legume does.
Are cashew nuts healthy?
Cashews are similar in nutritious value to other nuts. they are high in unsaturated fats (high in oleic acid which promotes good cardiovascular health and provide a good source of many essential minerals, particularly magnesium, copper, and zinc.
The fat content of cashews makes them calorie dense, so 16-18 cashews will give you around 163 calories.
